In his first bulletin of the year, Charlie discusses his business continuity resolutions that he is taking into 2026.

In addition to my usual resolutions of going to the gym, losing weight, and reading more books, I thought I would share some business continuity New Year’s resolutions. As they say, if you write them down, you are more likely to carry them out. We can revisit them at the end of the year and see if they have been achieved.

  1. AI & BIAs – Utilise AI to perform a meaningful task by automating the collection and presentation of BIA information. I have been wanting to do this for a while to see if we can save time, without compromising quality, and enhance the benefits of conducting the BIA. I have some ideas, but I need to execute them.
  2. AI in Business Continuity: Practical Application for Resilience Professionals – Run at least 2 days of this training course.
  3. Exercise Book – Finish and see my book ‘Practical Business Continuity Exercises: How to Test Your Organization’s Resilience’ published. My book can be preordered here.
  4. Strategic Intent – My jury is still out on how to team this and what it actually consists of. Speaking to different colleagues, they all have different views, nomenclature, and ways of including it in plans and training. My aim is to get agreement from all colleagues on how to include it in training and plans.
  5. Learn more about DR – As Databarracks, sells backups and Disaster Recovery, I have made an effort to educate myself about the basics of backups and some of the issues associated with them. I have written a couple of bulletins on the topic. I would like to better understand what a DR plan looks like, how to write one, and how to exercise the plan.

Perhaps I shouldn’t do too many since I still need to go to the gym, lose weight, and read more books. So, I am going to limit it to 5 and see how I get on!
