Travel disruptions seem to be almost commonplace now – between countries closing at a moment’s notice due to pandemic restrictions, to natural disasters like the Tonga volcano eruption halting air travel.  As the world ‘reopens’ for business, many of our executives are dusting off their passports and heading out once more, but how prepared is your business for travel?

Organisations have a duty of care to make sure that:

  • Staff are properly aware of the risks before they travel,
  • The risk is proportionate to the reward in making the trip,
  • A Travel Incident Plan is in place for when staff are caught up or impacted by an incident.

It is not just travel disruptions but it important to understand the variety of incidents that staff could get involved in:

  • Illness,
  • Accident,
  • Mugging,
  • Arrested,
  • Caught up in a terrorist attack,
  • Caught up in a natural disaster,
  • An incident happening in the country,
  • Pandemic and stranded or quarantined,
  • Go missing.

If you don’t have a plan in place, PlanB Consulting can work with you to develop plans and procedures for travel security:

  • Developing procedures and a risk assessment for staff, pre-travel,
  • Advising on emergency medical supplies and first aid kits,
  • Providing 24/7 call out and development of an emergency card for staff,
  • Training on cyber and information security when travelling,
  • Briefing staff on particular threats and how to respond to them.

We have extensive experience in facilitating exercises for incident teams to practice managing the response to a travel incident.
